Domain Name Policies
Renewal, transfer, reinstatement, and expired-domain penalty rules for popular TLDs. Policies are set by the registry, not by SG Register.
All pricing listed is for domain name agent bulk orders. All domain names must be registered and renewed through a domain name agent. SG Register acts as your agent for registration, renewal, and transfer of domain names.
Eligibility: Open to anyone worldwide.
Renewal Policy
Registration terms of 1 to 10 years. Auto-renew is optional and set at the registrar level. After expiry, the domain enters a Renewal Grace Period (commonly up to ~45 days) during which it can be renewed at the standard rate without penalty. The domain may stop resolving during this window depending on registrar settings.
Transfer Policy
Governed by the ICANN Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy. The registrant obtains an EPP authorization code from the current (losing) registrar, unlocks the domain, and initiates the transfer at the gaining registrar. The transfer auto-approves after 5 days unless explicitly rejected. Expired domains can still be transferred, except those already in the Redemption Grace Period, which must first be restored by the current registrar.
Reinstatement Policy
Once deleted, the domain enters a 30-day Redemption Grace Period (RGP). DNS resolution is disabled and transfers are prohibited. The registrant's registrar can restore the name, but a redemption fee (on top of the renewal fee) typically applies.
Expired Domain Penalty
If not restored during the 30-day RGP, the domain moves to a 5-day Pending Delete state, after which it is purged from the registry and released for re-registration by anyone on a first-come basis. Once released, the original owner has no priority to reclaim it.
Eligibility: Open to Singapore-registered businesses and entities with a valid UEN/ACRA number.
Renewal Policy
Registration terms of 1, 2, or 3 years, with the total registration period not exceeding 3 years from the date SGNIC receives the renewal instruction. Since SGNIC's 2024 platform revamp, the registry system auto-renews the domain on expiry (new expiry = 1 year from the old expiry) and grants a 15-day Auto-Renew Grace Period during which the name remains resolvable while the registrant settles the invoice.
Transfer Policy
The registrant obtains a 'domain transfer password' from the current (losing) registrar and gives it to the gaining registrar, who submits a transfer-of-registrar request to SGNIC. The losing registrar may explicitly approve or reject the request; if they take no action, SGNIC auto-approves the transfer after 7 days. Outstanding fees with the losing registrar may need to be settled first.
Reinstatement Policy
If the domain is not renewed within the Auto-Renew Grace Period, it is deleted and enters a 25-day Redemption Grace Period. The name is deactivated (unresolvable) and can be restored for a restore fee plus the renewal fee. On restore, the domain is reactivated with the expiry reflecting the auto-renewal.
Expired Domain Penalty
If not restored within the 25-day Redemption Grace Period, the domain is purged from the SGNIC system and becomes available for re-registration by eligible parties. Domains held under VerifiedID@SG-Hold, serverHold, or serverRenewProhibited status, or with incomplete Admin Contact verification, are not auto-renewed and go straight to deletion and the Redemption Grace Period.
Eligibility: Open to all applicants worldwide — no local entity or UEN requirement.
Renewal Policy
Same SGNIC lifecycle as .COM.SG: 1, 2, or 3-year terms (max 3 years total). The registry system auto-renews on expiry with a 15-day Auto-Renew Grace Period during which the name stays resolvable while the invoice is settled.
Transfer Policy
Same SGNIC transfer mechanics as .COM.SG: obtain a domain transfer password from the losing registrar, submit it via the gaining registrar, and SGNIC auto-approves after 7 days if the losing registrar does not act.
Reinstatement Policy
Same 25-day Redemption Grace Period as .COM.SG. The domain is deactivated and can be restored for a restore fee plus the renewal fee before the period ends.
Expired Domain Penalty
Same as .COM.SG: if not restored within 25 days, the name is purged and released for re-registration. The only difference from .COM.SG is eligibility — .SG is open to all applicants, so re-registration is not restricted to Singapore-registered entities.
